Neighborly Love

December 24, 2009 by admin

My blog posts have been non-existent for a month or
more! But today, I have a nice story of kindness to share.

My day began with an alarm clock that did not ring, a son who missed the bus, a
flat tire on the car needed to take the son to school, a garage door stuck open
because of the missed bus, snow and ice still on the driveway due to the snow
blower that didn't start and the TV service not pulling the satellite signal.
The next few hours of my day revolved around the towing company attempting
unsuccessfully to replace the flat with the spare as the spare is
"stuck" in place due to rust a conversation with the garage
door man that led to the door operating but also an engine left smoking and a
repair date of Monday and a TV company instructing me to disconnect the power
from the source of all connections which resulted in no TV service at all and the
first available service date of January 2, 2010!

My morning was chaos and my son shared this with our neighbors
and I shared it on Facebook. And, in the midst of the chaos I found peace
and joy.

My phone began ringing with offers of help. My Facebook comments have been constant with
words of encouragement, help and advice on addressing some of these issues and
the reminder that it is "5 o'clock somewhere!"

My neighbor arrived in my garage unexpectedly ready to
change the tire and fix the garage door.
I wouldn't let him work on the tire, but we attempted to work on the
door.He visited again with snow blower
in hand to remove the left over snow on the driveway and side walk.

From the garage door service man and the snow blower man trying
to fix my problems over the phone to avoid a service charge, to the towing man
trying to fix the tire in the garage and save me the tow charge, to the tire
service man telling me that he will send me vacation package information, to my
neighbor showing up when I needed him and my friends encouraging me and
supporting me- this speaks to what life is about being there for others.Whether through a kind or encouraging word or
a phrase to make you laugh, by unexpectedly showing up to help or helping for a
fee but having a heart while you are performing your job, life is beautiful because
we make it beautiful by our actions.

My drama day has turned into a day of joy because I was
lucky enough to experience the kindness of others.I challenge you today to share your generous
heart with others.Just one kind action by
you can change the dynamics of someone else's day.
